Los Molinos Hike

March 18th
We had to try this hike that we missed out on last time because it was really steep and my mom and Barb were here and mom's foot was really sore. Jason and Dylan were sick so Danielle and I went with Lawson, Gail, The Montez's and Dylan Ronan.
The hike starts at the top of the canyon at The Los Molinos gated community, by the restaurant. When it starts there are stairs but as you head down it is dirt and rocks. We all had walking sticks, well at least most of us did. It was slippery and steep, but the views were beautiful!  It is quite a bit warmer here than in Boquete and it felt pretty muggy in this area, quite humid. I really liked it because I have been freezing in Boquete.
We got about halfway down and there was a seating area with benches so we stopped and took some pictures and then proceeded on. We were heading to the river at the bottom of the canyon. Once we got to the river many got in for a swim and the rest enjoyed the views. The water was frigid! I was not about to get in and freeze! Danielle stayed in for hours! We all picniced and after we ate Gail and I decided to explore. We walked down the river and found where the waterfall and the cave that we could see from the top of the canyon were located! Beautiful!!
Lawson and Dylan were exploring the other side as we were exploring this side. After we returned they went exploring the side we explored and we stayed put. The Montez's went to see the waterfall and cave also. Danielle just swam and swam!
It was next time to hike back up. The hike itself was only 20 minutes but it was so steep, which is what made it a challenge both ways. By the time we got back to the top we were all hot and tired and we sat on the couches that were at the top by the restaurant. People were pouring cold water all over themselves to cool down.
On the way back home the crew decided to head to Gelato. I left it up to Danielle whether we would join or not. She was so exhausted she turned down gelato to go home! We really had a great day!

This is not a good place to lose your balance
We made it!
The river was cold, but beautiful
that building at the top is where we were
just around the riverbend....

watch out for those rapids

we are on our way to the waterfall

the waterfall with the cave at the top
keep in mind this is dry season
this trickle is a downpour in rainy season
we also could not have walked in the river with it just being up to Gail's knees

So Beautiful!
This part of the river is super deep, we could not see the bottom
Look at the moss on the rocks here
On our way back we found we could walk next to the river instead of in it!

We come back and Danielle is still swimming
Thanks for watching her Frank and Darlene

Make a Run for the Border...

We have been here almost six months so in order to keep our passports up to date we had to cross the border into Costa Rica and then come back to Panama and our passports are good for another 6 months. Some say you have to stay 24 hours others 72 hours so we were a little nervous. Some say you need $500 cash per person others say just a copy of your bank statement. What would we do? We did not feel comfortable with all that cash so we just took our bank statements and prayed that would be enough.
Many of the brothers and sisters here in the congregation stayed at a Hostel on the border and had really nice success! We decided to stay there also. The owner, Rick, is very hospitable and kind. He really goes out of his way to spoil you and it was all very reasonably priced!
The entry back in to Panama is normally what ones have a problem with because they request a return ticket out of the country, but we had no problem at all. We just showed them our passports and tickets and they let us back in. They did not even ask for our bank statement!
On our way to the border we stopped in David and went to their meeting...
